It began with humble begins on a dairy farm in Washington's Skagit County in 1946.  Steve Hanson grew up with an appreciation of hard work and a love of cars.  By the age of 13 he had saved enough to buy  his first car, a 1932 Chevrolet sedan, his love of cars never ceased.

A car enthusiast, he forged ahead in a career in the car industry, landing a job with McDowell Volkswagen.  Armed with an iron clad work ethic he quickly learned every facet of the car industry and got involved with every aspect of the operation from sales to service gaining the confidence to open his own dealership. That opportunity came in 1974 with a Downtown Olympia location featuring Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi brands.  In 1986 "Mr. H", as he is lovingly referred to by his employees, moved into his new location in the Olympia Auto Mall.  Thus began the roots of a locally-owned family business that still thrives today.

Vince Hanson carries the Hanson torch now, but just like his dad, hard work was instilled in him early on.  Mr. H didn't just hand over the family business, Vince had to earn it.  There is not a job in the dealership that Vince has not done.  From lot attendant, janitor, service manager, finance and sales, Vince has held every position over the years.  He was even part of the bricklaying team that built the walls and foundation for the Hanson Motors building in the Olympia Auto Mall.   Hard work was not the only value instilled in Vince, a strong core commitment to community was also forefront in his upbringing.  As a locally, family-owned business for over 45 years, Vince has made a difference in the community through support of St. Martins Gala as well as St. Martins Food & Wine Festival, Hands on Children Museum, Senior Services for South Sound, Senior Services Food Bank, Wolf Haven, Boys and Girls Club.  In fact, Hanson Motors has been the largest privately owned business supporter of Senior Services for South Sound since 2014 with a total of over $240,000 in donations.  Vince is also the first person to jump in to help with boots on the ground, spearheading food drives and other outreach projects.  Together with his wife Tammy Hanson and his sister Kimberly Hanson - Hanson Kia carries on the family business, committed to community, customers, and employees.
